Our Mission
First Methodist Day School is a weekday mission of the First United Methodist Church in Marshall, Texas. We strive to meet the needs of young children and families by providing a safe, nurturing, Christian environment through an educational program that addresses all areas of development (intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual). FMDS was founded in 1933 in the home of Alice Womack Chatham. Alice’s Wonderland started with one kindergarten class, and in 1947 the school relocated to the church. This was one of the first schools in Marshall to specialize in Pre-Kindergarten education. Since then, FMDS has continued to add opportunities for children to safely learn and grow in a Christian environment. The school now has nine classes of students ranging from eighteen months of age through five years old. FMDS continues to strive to make early childhood development both educational and fun!
