Per our guidelines, a student or staff member who has been exposed to COVID-19 must quarantine away from school for 10 days after the most recent exposure (unless he or she has received the COVID vaccine, or unless he or she has had a positive lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 90 days).
Students and staff who are exposed do have the option to return to school earlier than the 10 days IF after 5 days post-exposure they take a COVID test thorough a testing facility or doctor (i.e. NOT an at-home test) and the test comes back negative. If they receive a negative COVID test result after 5 days post-exposure he or she may then return to school no sooner than 7 days post-exposure.
If the student or staff member returns before the 10th day post-exposure, they must provide proof of a negative COVID test to the Director, Mallory Bradley, before returning to the classroom.
A student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 will follow the same guidelines above based on the day he or she is diagnosed. They may return to school 10 days after diagnosis, or after 7 days with proof of a negative test AND with being fever free for 48 hours.
Exposure is considered being within 6 feet of an infected person for a minimum of 15 accumulated minutes over a 24 hour period
We will not accept at-home tests as documentation of a NEGATIVE test for returning to school (must be from a doctor or testing facility)
FMDS administration will consult with the Health Department concerning EVERY reported positive case
Families will be notified of each known positive case by a posting next to the front door (names of students and staff will always be kept confidential)
If a child’s family member at home tests positive, they are considered exposed (please do not send them to school until the quarantine period is over)
Please notify FMDS Director, Mallory Bradley of any COVID positive cases with our students or staff
